Why aren't solar cars everywhere?
Electric vehicles are here to stay, but charging times and range are still major turnoffs for many buyers. So why not just slap solar panels on the car and drive indefinitely with zero fuel cost? A handful of solar cars are available for pre-order now, but how realistic is the tech? Can solar power provide enough power to extend range and cut charging time?

We're destroying our environment at an alarming rate. But it doesn't need to be this way. Our new channel Planet A explores the shift towards an eco-friendly world — and challenges our ideas about what dealing with climate change means. We look at the big and the small: What we can do and how the system needs to change. Every Friday we'll take a truly global look at how to get us out of this mess.

Will Solar-Powered Cars Ever Happen??
We absolutely love the idea of solar-powered electric cars here at Fully Charged Show, and over the past 12 months we've covered three of the most exciting and advanced examples from Sono Motors, Lightyear and Aptera. However, it seems that all three companies are, to varying degrees struggling to fund production for their groundbreaking products. Jack takes a look into the state of affairs at each company and explores why it's so damn hard to get a new car brand off the ground in 2023.

3 Interesting Solar Car Projects
In this episode we take a look at the company Lightyear. Their car, the Lightyear Zero was set to be the world's first solar production car. It could drive for months without needing to be re-charged. It seemed like a dream come true but the journey was fraught with financial trouble. We also take a look at 2 other solar car projects, Aptera and Sonos.
Episode 2 of my collaboration with the ABC (AI and education): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCa-JCr0v9c
Some other stats: The motors are 97% efficient, the solar panels are 20% more efficient than average panels. The drag coefficient is less than 0.19

The Solar Bus Revolution Begins In Nigeria
The world's first 100% solar bus fleet is up and running in Nigeria. Charging from the plentiful sun over Maiduguri, Phoenix Renewables is running a regular service that is not only clean and quiet on the roads, but also cheaper for passengers. Self-made entrepreneur Mustapha Gajibo's vision goes beyond electrifying gasoline-powered buses and boosting the local economy. He wants cities around the world to benefit from the technology. Could solar-powered cars be the future of electric vehicles?
As the electric vehicle industry becomes increasingly competitive and consumers become more eco-conscious, one California-based company created a car that can run on solar power. NBC News’ Steve Patterson took it for a test drive to find out how it works.

Making a SOLAR POWERED CAR... Full Build
In this video I make a car that uses nothing but the sun and solar panels to charge it's electric batteries. This 48V 3000W cyber truck solar car has flat range of 100km, and solar panels that can double that range on a fully sunny day. It takes about 10 hours to recharge fully in the sun. Made from two old bike frames and lots of steel, this cool looking roadster is a futuristic proof of concept for how cars could be powered one day.

Solar Powered Car:
A solar panel vehicle generally describes any vehicle with solar cells integrated into its design, known as a solar Electric Vehicle. Solar-powered vehicles are electric vehicles that use photovoltaic cells to convert energy from sunlight into electricity.
How Solar Panels Work on Cars:
These vehicles can store solar energy in batteries to run smoothly at night or without direct sunlight. If used on a large scale, solar-powered vehicles not only help with environmental pollution but also noise pollution.
Advantages of Solar Car:
“The benefit of solar-powered vehicles is that they don’t require fuel and have a low maintenance cost. The solar roof will capture sunlight continually whether the car is moving or stationary and can run longer on the same battery. This requires fewer charging stops and will get you faster from point A to point B. Solar energy will never run out, and it is free.
The first and foremost reason is the solar panel itself. Our current commercially operated solar panels have only around 20 to 35% efficiency. Hence, we would need much extra space for solar cells to power a solar car. But doing so invokes two other problems — weight and cost.
Working Principle of Solar Powered Car:
Solar panels contain photovoltaic (PV) cells. These PV cells take light, or photons, and convert it to solar electricity. PV cells produce direct current (DC) electricity when sunlight hits the solar panel. The electricity from this process is converted to the standard voltage by a controller, then stored in the battery.
